The number of students enrolled in the Rainbow District School Board’s Summer Co-operative Education Program has more than doubled this year. Close to 130 secondary students will complete placements with local employers.
“Some of these students are going to graduate as a result of Summer Co-op and others are catching up on credits so they can graduate next year,” said Director of Education Jean Hanson. “Many of our Specialist High Skills Major students are also taking Summer Co-op as part of their course requirements.”
Summer Co-op provides an excellent opportunity for students to supplement their secondary school education with two additional credits. A full range of work experience placements are offered to meet the needs and interests of all students.
“Six weeks of full day Co-op placements will provide students with an intensive and enriched hands-on training and learning experience,” said Director Hanson. “Students will explore careers of interest, earn credits and gain valuable work skills.”
To be eligible for Summer Co-op students must be at least 16 years of age, have successfully completed an interview with the Board’s Learning to 18 Co-ordinator, and must agree to meet all program requirements including pre-placement and integration activities.
Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to their placements.
